gif animation project
Inspired by my loathing for ads being everywhere, I decided to depict how it'd feel to consciously acknowledge the presence of logos in daily life. There's no doubt logos (aka capitalism) are ubiquitous in daily life and acknowledging every single one of them would feel suffocating and overwhelming. I express this feeling by animating logos present in my life (like lectures, commuting, etc.) growing to take over the visual space. As they grow, the palette goes from a muted, cinematic blue tone into a vibrant, saturated explosion of colours.Β
However, ads also linger in our subconscious, as seen in the freeze frame at the their maximum size just before they shrink. It's similar to how I'd look at Nike or Adidas first when buying a new pair of sneakers. Even when these companies have questionable practices, people still buy them because of their pervasiveness. The presence of a well-known logo pacifies morality for perceived status under capitalism. Yet, these GIFs share the same polish seen in ads. Hence, I criticize the pervasiveness of ads and capitalism by using the same visual language they attract customers with and elicit irony in the process.
